Adopt a dog

Give one of our rescued dogs a second chance and gain a loving companion for life.

How it works

For local adoptions 🇱🇧

1. You’ll be invited to the shelter for a meet & greet with the dog.

2. A home visit will follow to ensure a safe environment.

3. You’ll begin a 2-week foster trial to see if it’s the right fit.

If all goes well, we’ll finalize the adoption with a signed agreement.

For international adoptions 🌎

1. We’ll schedule a virtual meet & greet with our team (and possibly the dog).

2. A virtual home check will follow.

3. Once approved, we’ll sign an adoption agreement and handle all the necessary paperwork and travel requirements.

Adoption FAQ

Here are some of the most common questions we’re asked!

Lebanon has an incredibly high number of abandoned and abused dogs. While local adoptions do happen, the number of dogs needing homes is far greater than what we can accommodate locally. Also, given the instability in the country, adoptions are becoming more rare and abandonment more common. By adopting internationally, you’re giving a dog a second chance at a safe, loving life, and helping us make room to rescue more.

So far we have experience sending dogs to the US, Canada, UAE, and several European countries. Depending on where you are based, we will need to confirm the following beforehand depending on your location:

  • Airline regulations
  • Import laws of your country
  • Availability of trusted partners
  • Accessibility to the airport Please fill the adoption form and we’ll check if it’s feasible.

We handle all of the travel logistics to get the dog to you. We find flight volunteers to travel with our dogs as accompanied pets and we work with trusted flight partners and shipping agents to ensure safety and a smooth journey. We will coordinate with you to book the flight according to what suits you.

We don’t have any adoption fees for international adopters, but ask adopters to cover travel and vetting costs. Tests can range from $300-500 depending on where you live, and include vaccinations, microchip, passport, sterilization, and travel documents. Flight costs also vary tremendously based on the destination and whether a flight volunteer is available.

We will share with you a clear, all inclusive costs up-front so you have total visibility before committing. Get started by filling out an adoption form!

Roughly between 1-4 months depending on where you are based. There are several stages that can have varying time frames.

  • First, the vetting process can take a few weeks. During this time we get to know you, your needs, and will have several calls and exchange videos/photos to find you the perfect match.
  • Once we’ve found the best match we will prepare the dog’s paperwork. This can vary significantly as it depends on the requirements of your country. For example, for Europe, special bloodwork can take up to 3 months to process.

Each dog is fully vetted and travels with:

  • International pet passport
  • Vaccination records
  • Microchip certificate
  • Fit-to-fly health certificate

Our dogs are part of our family and we know them extremely well. We’ll match you with a dog that fits your needs and lifestyle, and give full transparency about the dog’s personality and quirks. We also share videos and updates before the adoption so you can feel confident in your decision.

Before flying, we assess each dog’s sociability with people and other dogs, and test their leash walking and basic manners to ensure total transparency about other practical aspects.

This new transition can be stressful and it can take weeks or even months for a dog to truly settle in. We provide follow-up support after an adoption and can help guide you with any issues you may have.

If however, the match still doesn’t work, we’ll work with you to find a solution, whether it’s rehoming locally, finding a foster, or flying the dog back to GMAP.

  • We provide honest, direct communication and are here to support you with this big step and make sure it’s a happy solution for both.
  • Our dogs are fully vetted and loved before flying. We have a deep connection with each and every one of them, so aside from being incredibly socialized, we can also tell you everything you need to know about them.
  • We’ve sent dozens of our dogs to happy homes worldwide – we have the experience to make sure the experience is smooth and successful!
  • You become part of a growing international rescue family. By adopting from us, you also give us the chance to save more lives from abandonment, illness, or abuse.

Becoming a flight volunteer is easy! All you have to do is let us know your availability and where you’re open to fly to and we will get in touch. Flight volunteers only have to pay for their own ticket and the dog’s costs will be covered by the adopter. You can submit a Volunteer form and specify your interest and ability.
